The Acadian flag

The tricolore étoilé was adopted as the national symbol of Acadie in 1884, during the second Acadian National Convention in Miscouche, Prince Edward Island. An initiative of Father Marcel-François Richard, the flag recalls the Acadians’ French origins. At the request of Father Richard, Marie Babineau sewed the Stella Maris, also known as the Star of the Sea, to the flag as a reminder of the Acadians’ Catholic religion.
