My name is Marie Bourgeois, I was born and brought up in Verdun Montreal and I came down here in 1952 and I met my husband and I’ve been here ever since, 54 years married. I’m picking the Montmorency cherry, it’s a sour cherry, it’s good for eating and it’s not as sweet as the sweet cherries, but it’s good for pies and cheesecakes, and jellies, and even jam you can make with this it’s very very good. You can freeze them and do your jam and that in the winter time.

And where did you learn how to make cherry trees?
Well the department agricultural helps you with that, you know the research station, if you have any problems you call them and if there’s some new thing coming out that’s not usual, they’ll tell you what’s going on. That’s what they’re there for. The holy cross fathers had it before, but we were the ones that bought it, but we expanded it unbelievably since then, apple trees, cherries, pears. This is the worse part about cherry trees you got come back, come back, come back, you know what I mean? It’s not as if you can go to a cherry tree and clean it all out, you got to come back to where and it’s really boresome at times, but I really enjoy it myself.
